Summary
The Travel Information Service (TIS) team at Leicester’s ATC have specific operational requirements related to their involvement in live radio broadcasts and the regular traffic reports service that they provide.
Mott MacDonald has provided a CDMF based solution which is highly tailored to meet these operational requirements.
This project demonstrates the flexibility of the CDMF architecture and the ingenuity of the Mott MacDonald team, as the installed system was installed and commissioned in a very short time, allowing the users to migrate with minimal disruption and learning curve.
Since the first installation, the system has recently been upgraded with a new, map data set and a range of user interface enhancements.
Key Features
As well as the standard CDMF features, the TIS-DB system includes:
- A Real-Time Interface with the MATTISSE system allows the two UTMC compliant systems to exchange information on traffic events within the relevant geographic area.
- An integrated, configurable Reporting Facility, which allows preconfigured and bespoke reports to be generated and issued via printout, fax or email
- Email & Fax Interfaces for issuing reports & incident information to stakeholders. These interfaces allow the user to issue PDF formatted report documents to single recipients or configurable distribution lists
- An enhanced gazetteer facility combining standard Ordinance Survey data with locally defined settlement areas.
System Architecture
- The email component uses a standard SMTP connection to the Leicester City Council’s email server. The email component sends the report content in PDF file format to ensure a professional layout
- With the success of the email interface, the fax component is only used for a small number of stakeholders who prefer receiving reports via fax. It can also be used as a back-up mechanism in case the email service ever suffers performance problems
- Events are sent to the MATTISSE system on user discretion. Each event that is either sent to MATTISSE or received from MATTISSE is clearly identified as ‘MATTISSE visible’
